Artist statement: "I am heavily inspired by Japanese philosophies surrounding art & life, such as wabi-sabi & Ikigai, embracing imperfections as beautiful and the simplicity of things; the Kimono is a delicate garment, so a lot of time goes into setting up the
Kimono and getting to know each one. It is very much a spiritual experience, taking care of the threading, making sure the paint does not seep through too much, the application could be considered graffiti-like or tagging rather than the traditional silk paintings. Yet, I try to honor each Kimono the best I can, oftentimes you will see the original crest
untouched. My kimono paintings feel more like carvings, bringing unique motifs to existence. The lasting result is a visual narrative of abstractions inspired by nature, such as fractals and rhythmic wave-like forms that are uniquely seasonal to an
ever-evolving body of work." - Soi K
Matching kimono (shown in photo on right, female model) is SOLD OUT.
Handpainted, short jacket length, silk haori kimono. One-of-a-kind. One size fits most. Unisex.
