Daniel Renfrow is a freelance journalist and collage and embroidery artist based in Houston, Texas. Although he’s now lived in Houston for half of his life, he had a meandering childhood, and was raised in small towns in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas before making his way to Singapore and eventually to the Bayou City as a teenager. During the early days of the pandemic, Daniel turned to crafting as a way to make the best of his time spent in isolation. Although he initially found creative solace in the art of paper collage, he’s since shifted focus to hand embroidery and sewing. Daniel is a devotee of slow stitching, a type of mindful and meditative hand sewing centered around slowing down your thoughts and allowing your stitches to freely flow.
He’s also an avid collector of global folk art, and much of his work is influenced by traditional handicrafts found around the world. For more info, follow Daniel on Instagram @dfrow and @cutzucollage
